After resting more than 1500 years the
olympic games were revitalised in 1896 in a modernised form.
On the initiative of the French baron Pierre de Coubertin the first olympic
games in modern time were held in Athens, Greece, and the games has since
then been held every four years with the exception of the two world wars.
The Games-Encyclo website focuses on the history of the olympic games in modern time - the cultural development of the games, its sports and events, its hosting cities
and host countries but especially the drama, scandals and legends of the olympic
games sporting events. Everything is told on the background of thorough litterature studies
on the subject and within the last few decades from the coverage of the olympics in magazines, radio-
and tv-stations and websites participating in covering the worlds
biggest media event.
